Jennifer Folkes inducted into Mount Pearl Sport Alliance Hall of Fame

Jan. 29, 2017

Past President (2011-2016) of Synchro NL, Jennifer Folkes, is one of 2 inductees into the Mount Pearl Sport Alliance's Hall of Fame, in the Builder category.

Jen started synchronized swimming in 1988, and began coaching in 1994. She coached girls in every age category, and was the Head Coach of Mount Pearl Synchro (now Summit Synchro) for 9 years. During those years, her teams had numerous Gold, Silver, and Bronze in Team Routine, Canadian Open Combo, Solo, Duet, and Figures competitions. 18 of Jen's former swimmers went on to become coaches, judges, and referees. Jen has held the position of Chief Referee, and continues to be a Provincial Judge.

In 2011, Jen became President of Synchro NL, a position she would hold for 5 years. As President, she took the lead and supported several key initiatives, such as the NL Rule Book for Synchronized Swimming, Long Term Athlete Development program, and the evaluation and selection process for the Synchro Team NL for the 2015 Canada Winter Games. Jen was the Manager of Synchro Team NL and saw them achieve the province's best ever finish at CWG. Additionally, Jen never stopped looking for funds to help benefit Synchro NL's athletes and coaches, as well as ensuring that all of the Synchro NL's members benefited from national-level training and development.

There is no doubt that Jen's enthusiasm and dedication to synchronized swimming has paid off for the entire province. We gratefully acknowledge her outstanding contribution, and happily congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition!
